Clean Boats, Clean Waters workshops begin this week
People interested in stopping the spread of invasive species in our lakes and rivers are invited to attend an upcoming Clean Boats & Clean Waters: Watercraft Inspection Workshop co-sponsored by Nicolet College.
During the three-hour training workshop, Department of Natural Resource specialists will provide an overview of aquatic invasive species and explain how to organize an effective watercraft inspection program. Participants will gain hands-on experience and understand the benefits of monitoring for invasive plant species. A volunteer handbook and resource tool kit will be available at a cost of $25. The handbook describes how to organize a watercraft inspection team, while the tool kit provides informational brochures that may be distributed during a watercraft inspection. Cost to attend a workshop is $8.
The workshops, each held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., will be repeated four times. Dates and locations include the Crandon Library, Wednesday, April 13; the Nicolet College Rhinelander campus Northwoods Center room 202, Tuesday, May 10; Northland Pines Middle School, Thursday, May 26; and at the Nicolet College Lakeland Campus on Thursday, June 2.
To register for a workshop, call Nicolet at (715) 356-6753 or 1-800-585-9304, ext. 6753.
Other workshop sponsors include the Department of Natural Resources, the University of Wisconsin Extension, and the Wisconsin Association of Lakes.
