Seven named to Island panel
By Dean S. Acheson - Daily News Staff
Two town supervisors will serve along with five citizens on an ad hoc committee charged with looking at the impact of additional multi-family housing and related issues on the Island of Minocqua.
Town Chairman Don Gauger announced the appointments to the Island Planning and Zoning Revision Committee at Monday night's board meeting, held one day earlier due to Tuesday's general election.
Supervisors Mary McMahon and Sue Heil will be joined by Chester Andrews, Bruce Robertson, Sally Murwin, Adam Alesauskas and Jim Rude on the committee. All are Minocqua residents.
Serving in an advisory capacity will be Karl Jennrich, Pete Wegner and Kurt Bloss, all from the county zoning department; local surveyor Jim Rein, Barbara Newman and Gauger.
The town has asked the county to enact a six-month moratorium on multi-family developments, including condominiums, on the Island as the committee and town board assess the impacts of current and future projects. Two large condominium projects on opposite ends of the Highway 51 bridge are underway and a smaller one near the community center is proposed.
A town supervisor earlier expressed concern about projects building almost to the lot lines. Other issues are pollution from water runoff into the lake and whether there are enough parking to accommodate additional residents and visitors.
In an unrelated matter from Monday's closed meeting, the board accepted the resignation of Linda Wohling as police dispatcher and allowed her to use vacation days for health insurance.
