Sustainable forestry conference to outline trends in industry

A conference on sustainable forestry will be held Thursday, April 7, from 8:30 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. at the Keyes Peak Ski Lodge in Florence.

This conference will provide information on:

€ Sustainable forest criteria and indicators

€ Current and future trends in the forest industry and their communities

€ Case study - what has worked in Gogebic County

€ Community Economic Action Plan examples

€ Community Forestry Planning - a tool kit and first steps

Matt Johnson, the director of Governor Granholm's Upper Peninsula office, will attend as well as a representative from Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle's office to discuss state and national forestry policies that affect our communities.

"Members of the forestry industry, local government, economic developers and foresters are all encouraged to attend in order to network and discuss this important topic," said Kathy Bednarski. To register call her at Florence UW-Extension 715-528-4480 ext.16 (kathy.bednarski@ces.uwex.edu). Registration fee of $15 includes lunch. Registration deadline is April 1.
